Morna

Morna is a popular and widespread minor- heavy music genre of Cabo Verdes that was probably created on Boavista .

The style is often compared to Portuguese fado . It is played with guitars , “ cavaquinho ” (small four-string guitar), violin and a 10-string guitar. The mood of the Mornas is melancholy and thoughtful, the lyrics are full of longing, homesickness and longing (“ Sodade ”).
