Moss Side is a district and electoral district of Manchester , England , approximately 3.1 km south of the city center.
history
Moss Side was initially located on a moor landscape (origin of the name), so in the Middle Ages mainly dried peat was used for heating in this area. The first written mention from the year 1086 in the Domesday Book lists only a few houses. Even at the beginning of the 19th century , fewer than 200 people lived here, but this changed quickly during the Industrial Revolution .

Moss Side is surrounded by the Whalley Range to the south, Old Trafford to the west, Chorlton-on-Medlock , Rusholme and Fallowfield to the east, and Hulme to the north. In Moss Side there are the public parks Whitworth Park and Alexandra Park .
