The 1629 m high Mount Marcy is the highest mountain in the US state of New York and the Adirondack Mountains as well as in Adirondack Park . It is located in the city of Keene , in Essex County . Mount Marcy is named after Governor William L. Marcy , who explored the area and its peaks in the early 19th century.
