Mount Sheffield is a 915 m (according to British data 785 m ) high mountain in the East Antarctic Coatsland . It rises on the north side of the Shackleton Range at the confluence of the Gordon Glacier and Slessor Glacier .
It was first mapped by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) under the direction of British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs . It is named after Alfred Harold Sheffield (1900–1983), chairman of the working group for communication by radio waves of the International Geophysical Year , who assisted the expedition in this area.
