Mr. T (born May 21, 1952 in Chicago , Illinois ; actually Laurence Tureaud ) is an American actor .

Life

Tureaud was born in the Robert Taylor Homes, a poor neighborhood in Chicago, as the second youngest of twelve children. As a young man, he was encouraged by his brothers to start weight training . He successfully played college football and was three times city champion in wrestling . He then joined the army, but was soon dismissed because of an argument with a superior.

After that he worked as a bodyguard and from then on he called himself Mr. T (as a tribute to his father, who was often called "boy" by whites, and so that he had to be addressed as Mister). He has worked for celebrities such as Diana Ross , Muhammad Ali and Michael Jackson . He gained a certain degree of notoriety, which helped him to a film career. His motto on his business cards is also known : “Next to God, there is no greater protector than I” (next to God, there is no greater protector than me).

Mr. T was discovered by Sylvester Stallone in 1982 and was given the role of clubber Lang in the third part of the Rocky saga . He owes further fame to the role of Bosco Albert "BA" (Bad Attitude) Baracus in the American television series Das A-Team . In the animated series Mister T (1983, broadcast in Germany on RTL + from 1987), Mr. T himself was the main character and traveled with a group of gymnasts through the USA. The real Mr. T appeared at the end of each episode and informed the young viewers about the abuse of drugs, behavior in problematic situations, correct environmental behavior, etc. In 1984, Mr. T tried his hand at the music business and recorded the rap song Treat Your Mother Right , which was only moderately successful.

The contact to the WWF (now WWE ) was made by Hulk Hogan , who had a guest role in Rocky III and Das A-Team . The resulting collaboration culminated in Wrestlemania I in March 1985 when Mr. T and Hogan stood together in the ring. On April 5, 2014, Mr. T was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his son, T Junior . The ceremony took place the night before WrestleMania XXX (30) in New Orleans.

In the 1990s, Mr. T developed lymph node cancer . His healing strengthened his belief in God. Today he is active as a preacher , among other things . In 2001, Mr. T appeared in a short sequence of Not Another Teenage Movie . Mr. T also appears in various computer games, including World of Warcraft , for which he also campaigned on television and in animated series like in The Penguins of Madagascar as Officer X . From 2011 to 2013 he had his own TV show on BBC Three called World's Craziest Fools . In Germany she was broadcast as Mr. Ts crazy world on kabel eins .

Mr. T has three children.
