Muhammad Jusuf Kalla (born May 15, 1942 in Watampone , South Sulawesi ) is the incumbent 12th Vice President of Indonesia . He was also the 10th Vice President of Indonesia from 2004 to 2009 and the chairman of the Golkar Party during the same term .

Life

He has had a career as a businessman and developed from a transportation business. Import and export company a large conglomerate. At times he was President of the Indonesian Red Cross and an official of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce .

During the election campaign for the presidential election in October 2004, Kalla was expelled from the party because he was running as Vice President of the Democratic Party candidate , Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono . After the Golkar candidate Wiranto was eliminated in the first round and Yudhoyono won the presidency, Kalla was rehabilitated. In December 2004 he won the vote for the Golkar party presidency against Akbar Tanjung .

In the 2014 presidential election, he was a vice-presidential candidate under Joko Widodo . This time, too, he did not run for Golkar, but for the Democratic Party.
