Murray McEachern

Murray McEachern (* 16th August 1915 in Toronto ; † 28. April 1982 in Malibu , California ) was a Canadian jazz - trombone and alto saxophonist .

life and work

As a child, McEachern first studied violin at the Toronto Conservatory of Music ; at twelve he made his first concert appearance as a soloist at Massey Hall . As a teenager he learned the saxophone and clarinet , played with Lucio Agostini and performed with Percy Faith on CRBC . Later other instruments such as trombone, bass and trumpet were added.

In 1936 he moved to Chicago , where he soon became a trombonist in Benny Goodman's Big Band . He also worked in the Jack Hylton Orchestra and then as a saxophonist and trombonist in the Casa Loma Orchestra , which was directed from 1937 to 1941 by Glen Gray . In 1941 McEachern moved to the Paul Whiteman Orchestra; shortly afterwards he worked as a musician in troop entertainment during the Second World War . In 1947 he worked in the Phil Moore Orchestra.

He continued his career in Hollywood film studios, as a soloist in films such as The Glenn Miller Story , Paris Blues and The Benny Goodman Story . to listen. In later years he recorded records under his own name, toured Europe in 1972 and briefly worked in 1973 with the Duke Ellington Orchestra ; from 1974 to 1977 he directed the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra ( Ghost Band ).
