Musʿab ibn Umair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Musʿab ibn ʿUmair also known as Musʿab al-Chayr (The Good) (مصعب بن عمير, DMG Musʿab ibn ʿUmair ; * between the years 594 and 598; † 625 ) was one of the Sahaba (companions) of the Prophet Mohammed , who accepted Islam at a young age . He plays a very important role for Islam as he is jointly responsible for the fact that Mohammed and his people were able to perform the great hijra from Mecca to Medina .

Life

The two Arab tribes Aus and Khazraj lived in Yathrib , in what was then the Medina . In the year 11 after the calling (3%; 620 AD) six men, all of the Khazraj tribe, came to Mecca for pilgrimage . When the Prophet addressed them with the message of Islam, they listened with surprising openness and affection (in this they were completely different from the other tribes he had met so far). It also played a part in this that they came from a torn city in which the two Arab tribes lived in bitter enmity. They were still speaking the Shahada on site and resolved to bring the Prophet's message to their people in Medina. Thereupon Mohammed sent Musʿab ibn ʿUmair with the delegation from Medina to Medina to teach them about Islam and to bring them the previous revelation.

death

Mus'ab ibn Umair was killed in the battle of Uhud in 625. He was one of the few who had fought with great courage. However, in the end, when he tried to protect the Prophet, he was stabbed by the spear of Ibn Kami'ah and thus died a martyr's death .
