location

The Musikgymnasium Kathe Kollwitz is located in Rostock's Dierkow , was established in 1992 as a high school Toitenwinkel founded and teaches his students since 1995 as Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium in the original school building.

History of the school building

The Dierkower School, the cornerstone of which was laid in 1938, was designed by the architect Freiherr Erich zu Putlitz . Inaugurated in 1940, the school building was furnished with the most modern equipment at the time. With the large wall paintings (e.g. by Egon Tschirch ) and the wide hallways, it was considered a "symbol of the new era". The elementary school in the middle of the newly created Dierkower settlement served as a military hospital as early as 1942, and from autumn 1942 had to accept part of the municipal hospital. In the first post-war years an elementary school moved in again, followed by the 2nd  Rostock Polytechnic High School . This was later named after her former teacher Egon Schultz and closed its doors in 1990 to make way for a primary school again by 1994.

After eleven months of construction and a third floor, the schoolhouse was reopened on September 15, 1995 as the Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium. Since November 2001 the school has had a photovoltaic and a solar hybrid system. Both systems are the results of student work or student projects.
