The music school Düren coordinates the musical artistic offer in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Düren . In October 1970, the city followed other North Rhine-Westphalian cities by adding a music school to the city's cultural offerings .

In addition to promoting musical skills, the music school also pursues the further development of dance skills and focuses primarily on adolescent students. In addition, special talents and preparatory training should be promoted in the music school. In 2019, around 1,800 students will be taught by around 65 teachers.

The central teaching building of the music school is listed. It is on the corner of Tivolistraße and August-Klotz-Straße on the former war memorial square and has the street address Tivolistraße 1. The current house of the music school is the former villa of the Düren manufacturer Schüll. The building was built in the 19th century. It is a two-story plastered building with a mezzanine floor . Towards Tivolistraße there is a two-axis gabled central projection . In 1914 the building was extended to August-Klotz-Straße. Since that time it has also been used as a school building, including as a Protestant elementary school or grammar school ( grammar school at Wirteltor Düren ).

In front of the building is the Orpheus statue , a memorial.

The building is entered under No. 1/007 in the list of monuments of the city of Düren.

The Friends of the Music School Düren eV

The Friends of the Music School Düren e. V. is committed to the musical development of children and young people. He was instrumental in the conception and development of the Cappella Villa Duria concert forum. Under his sponsorship, this has created a diverse range of concerts for the city of Düren over the past 15 years. Around 20 to 25 concerts are played under this season.

In addition, the following things are funded from donations to the friends' association:

  • Grants for schoolchildren for ensemble trips
  • Sponsorships for children so that they can take part in what the music school has to offer
