The Mutual UFO Network ( MUFON ) is a US non-profit organization that has set itself the task of scientific research into the UFO phenomenon. It is one of the largest and oldest organizations in the world in this field and has its own chapter in Germany. There is also the MUFON-CES association in Germany, which claims to be an independent association and has nothing to do with MUFON USA. However, there is an informal exchange with colleagues in the USA and the association is allowed to use the old MUFON USA logo in Germany.

organization

MUFON sees itself as a worldwide network of UFO researchers and is divided into regional sections that record reports and carry out on-site investigations. The number of members is around 4,000, with the majority coming from the USA . MUFON was founded on May 30, 1969 as Midwest UFO Network in Quincy , Illinois . Due to steady growth, the regional organization was renamed Mutual UFO Network in 1973 .

The most prominent members include the Canadian actor Dan Aykroyd , as well as the nuclear physicist and book author Stanton Friedman .

purpose

The purpose is the systematic collection and scientific analysis of UFO data, with the aim of understanding the nature and origin of the UFO phenomenon and informing the public about it. For this purpose, MUFON accepts witness reports, carries out on-site investigations and can fall back on experts for further analyzes in various fields.

The association organizes an international symposium on the UFO phenomenon every year, the results of which are also published in book form. MUFON is also the publisher of the monthly MUFON UFO Journal .

MUFON-CES

The Mutual UFO Network - Central European Section (MUFON-CES) is an independent association in Germany, with a focus on the German-speaking area, which according to its own information does not belong to MUFON USA / International. Since 1998, MUFON-CES has also been called the Society for the Investigation of Anomalous Atmospheric and Radar Phenomena and is a registered association .

MUFON-CES was founded in 1974 by Illobrand von Ludwiger and was headed by him until April 2014. Since October 2014 Iv Ludwiger has been head of the newly founded “Interdisciplinary Society for the Analysis of Anomalous Phenomena eV” (IGAAP). "While data is mainly collected there, we actually want to investigate the UFO cases," von Ludwiger told Exopolitics Germany.

According to its own information, the MUFON-CES consists of around 70 members, of which around 50 are scientists and engineers from universities, institutes and the aerospace industry. The organization is based in Munich.

Just like MUFON USA, MUFON-CES accepts witness reports on UFO sightings and conducts on-site investigations. For this purpose, MUFON-CES has working groups and experts in various fields such as image analysis , radar , neurology , perceptual psychology and aviation. In addition to regional assemblies, MUFON-CES also organizes an annual general meeting and publishes conference and research reports on an irregular basis.

Originally the MUFON-CES was only accessible to academics, but now the organization is open to anyone interested.
