Mykola Liwyzkyj

Mykola Andriyovych Liwyzkyj ( Ukrainian Микола Андрійович Лівицький * January 9 jul. / 22. January  1907 greg. In Zhmerynka , Podolia Governorate , Russian Empire , † 8. December 1989 in Philadelphia , United States ) was a Ukrainian journalist, exiled politicians and 3 President of the Ukrainian People's Republic in exile.

Life

Mykola Liwyzkyj was born to Andrij Liwyzkyj , the last Prime Minister of the Ukrainian People's Republic to act on Ukrainian soil. In 1920 his family emigrated with him from the Ukraine and he then studied in Prague and Warsaw . During the Second World War he lived in Warsaw. In 1942 he went to Kiev to become politically active, but was arrested and imprisoned by the Gestapo shortly after his arrival .

After his father and Stepan Wytwyzkyj, Liwyzkyj was the 3rd chairman (president) of the Directory of the Ukrainian People's Republic in exile from March 22, 1967 until his death .

Mykola Liwyzkyj died in Philadelphia and was buried in the cemetery of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Memorial Church in South Bound Brook , New Jersey .
