Nížkov (German Nischkau ) is a municipality in Okres Žďár nad Sázavou , Czech Republic . It has 961 inhabitants on 18.32 km² and therefore a population density of 52 inh. / Km².
geography
Nížkov is twelve km southwest of the city of Žďár nad Sázavou and eight km northeast of Polná . The Poděšínský brook flows through the village, into which the Sirákovský brook flows.
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1234 when the landlord Jan von Polná founded the Cistercian monastery of St. Bernard ( Cela sv. Bernarda ). A wooden church was built next to the monastery and the monks planted a vineyard. After only five years, the abbot Slávek and the brothers returned to their mother monastery Osek because of the adverse living conditions and the territorial claims asserted by the Olomouc bishopric .
There are several underground passages under Nížkov, one of which probably led to the church.

The municipality Nížkov consists of the districts Buková ( Bukau ), Nížkov ( Nischkau ) and Špinov ( Spinnhof ), which also form cadastral districts.
Attractions
- Baroque Church of St. Nikolaus, the building erected in the second half of the 13th century received its present form in 1753 through the addition of the nave and the elevation of the tower. On the western front is the ossarium, which was laid out in 1709 and contains the skulls and bones of around 8,000 people.

- Wayside shrine on the road to Sázava , created in 1748, it commemorates the end of the plague years 1741–1748
