NGC 4544 is a lenticular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 48 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1624 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4527 , NGC 4533 , NGC 4538 , IC 3474 .
The object was discovered by Edward D. Swift on April 27, 1887 .
