NRG Energy is an American utility company headquartered in Houston . The company is listed on the NYSE . With an installed capacity of 53.5 GW in 19 states, NRG is one of the largest energy suppliers in America.
Power plants
NRG Energy has an installed capacity of 25.5 GW in natural gas power plants, 17.4 GW in coal power plants and 6 GW in oil power plants. The company also owns 44% of the South Texas nuclear power plant .
Together with SunPower , NRG is building the 250 MW open -air photovoltaic system California Valley Solar Ranch .
history
At the end of 2005, NRG Energy took over Texas Genco and in 2009 the customer business from Reliant Energy. In 2012, NRG bought GenOn (14,000 MW) and Edison Mission Energy (8000 MW) from Edison International .
