The Nachtmagazin (proper spelling night magazine ) is a news magazine of the ARD , broadcast since March 1, 1995th It is broadcast on the nights from Monday to Tuesday through to the night from Thursday to Friday, usually between 00:00 and 01:00 on Das Erste and tagesschau24 , and is produced by ARD-aktuell in Hamburg .

broadcast

On April 23, 2014, the night magazine broadcast for the first time from a new news studio. An 18-meter-wide, semicircular media wall was installed, which is played from behind with seven projectors with 3-D graphics, panorama images, photos and videos. A graphics system corrects distortions in real time. Two separate tables give the moderators more freedom of movement. Thanks to the media wall, difficult issues could be presented more clearly in the form of animated graphics. In addition, they rely more than ever on excellent photojournalism. Journalistically, however, nothing has changed in the concept of the programs. In addition, a new opening fanfare was produced and the news overview will again be read out by a Tagesschau spokesman in the studio. With the new studio, the night magazine is now also produced in HD . With the resignation of the long-time presenter Gabi Bauer on January 30, 2019, it was announced that the Friday edition would be discontinued or only broadcast on certain days.

Since the redesign of the Tagesschau design in 2005, the night magazine was no longer moderated from the news counter, but in front of a screen wall. In addition, there was in the meantime a news block that was spoken by a Tagesschau spokesman in the studio, and a moderated weather forecast.

Since the beginning of February 2019, the news block in the night magazine has been canceled without replacement.

Moderators

The first moderators were Claus-Erich Boetzkes and Katharina Wolkenhauer . Boetzkes switched to Tagesschau at five in 1997 and was replaced by Thomas Bade . Together with Wolkenhauer, he moderated the program until the end of 2005. Since the beginning of 2006, the program has been presented by Gabi Bauer and Anja Bröker . The latter ended her moderation on February 23, 2007. Her successor was Ingo Zamperoni , who led the show from March 5, 2007 to 2013, alternating with Gabi Bauer. After Zamperoni's change to the topics of the day , Susanne Stichler followed. Changing moderators were used as substitutes. For example, from 2006 and again from 2012 Kerstin Petry and from February 2009 Linda Zervakis . Previously, this task was already performed by the then Tagesschau spokeswoman Laura Dünnwald . In the summer of 2007, Tagesschau spokesman Thorsten Schröder represented the pregnant Kerstin Petry. There has been a third main presenter since 2014, who was Sven Lorig until the end of 2016 . Since 2017 there are only two main moderators with Gabi Bauer and Susanne Stichler. Sven Lorig's position was taken by Constantin Schreiber , who has been acting as a moderator since March. Thorsten Schröder, Anna Planken , Lena Oldach (née Döring) , Kirsten Gerhard and Michail Paweletz also moderate . On September 26, 2017, Sven Lorig hosted the night magazine again after a long break. In addition, Julia-Niharika Sen (since July 19, 2018), André Schünke (since November 6, 2019) and Helge Fuhst (since July 16, 2020) represent the night magazine. On August 18, 2020, after a long break of 6 years, Pinar Atalay hosted the night magazine again.
