Nadia Ali (born August 3, 1980 ) is a Pakistani - American singer-songwriter . She became known as a member of the band iiO , which came in 2001 with the hit Rapture at number two in the British singles charts .

biography

Nadia Ali was born in Libya in 1980 to Pakistani parents. When she was a child, her family moved to New York , where she still lives today.

At the age of 17 Ali met the music producer Markus Moser, who was looking for a singer for his productions. The duo eventually founded the music project Vaiio, named after the Sony Vaio laptop, on which Ali and Moser initially worked. In order to avoid possible legal problems with Sony , the prefix "Va" was later removed. iiO is best known for the globally successful hit single Rapture , which was released in 2001. The follow-up single At the End also climbed into the top 20 of the British single charts.

In 2005, Ali left the group to begin a solo career. In 2006, however, Poetica , iiO's debut album, was released. Moser continued to produce under the name iiO and with Ali's voice. So in 2006 the single Is It Love? and in 2007 the album Reconstruction Time: The Best of iiO Remixed .

At the beginning of her solo career, Ali worked with various very successful producers such as Armin van Buuren and went on tour with him. Her first solo single, Crash and Burn , wasn't released until 2008. In the Billboard dance charts ( Hot Dance Club Songs ), the song came in at number 6. Her second single, Love Story , which was remixed by Andy Moor among others , reached there even number one. The song was at the 2010 Winter Music Conference as Best Progressive / Tech House Track nominated.

In September 2009, her first solo album, Embers , was finally released . Two more songs of this have been released as singles so far: Fine Print and Fantasy . In December 2010, was Morgan Page remix of Fantasy in the category Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for the Grammy Awards 2011 nominations.
