history

Namakkal was under the influence of two medieval dynasties that ruled southern India for centuries - the Pallavas and the Pandyas ; later came the Cholas , Hoysalas and the Vijayanagar empire (until 1565). In the 17th century, the Sultanate of Bijapur and the Golkonda-Mysore rulers occupied power in the region. In the 18th century the area belonged to the sphere of influence of Hyder Ali , Tipu Sultan and then the British. To what extent the remote place was able to develop under the various rulers or was even inhibited in its development is unclear due to a lack of preserved records.
