history

On January 20, 1893, the Carnival Society was founded to organize a carnival parade in Munich . The following year there was August Humpelmayr as Prince Gustl I, the first Munich carnival prince . In 1908 the name Narrhalla was added to the association for the first time . In 1910 there was the last carnival prince for a long time, until the first carnival ball after the First World War was held again on March 8, 1925 in the Salvatorkeller am Nockherberg . Since 1928 there have been carnival parades again.

In World War II, no carnival activities were organized. Mardi Gras balls with couples of princes have taken place in Munich again since 1949. The carnival parades were discontinued in 1970 due to a lack of participation. Since 2007 the Munich carnival parade has been taking place again, in which the Narrhalla Munich takes part.

Orders and awards

In addition to the carnival medals , which are redesigned every year, the Narrhalla has awarded the Karl Valentin medal since 1973 and the Sigi Summer Taler art prize since 2001 .

Seasonal schedule

Every year the Narrhalla opens the carnival season with their new prince couple on the Viktualienmarkt . This is followed by various balls in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof . The nonsensical Thursday (also called women's carnival) is celebrated again on the Viktualienmarkt. The Narrhalla is also present at the dance of the market women at the end of Shrove Tuesday.
