Kozara National Park is one of four national parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It was founded in 1967 by the then President of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito . It is located between the Una , Sana , Save and Vrbas rivers in the Prijedor municipality near Kozarac in the Republika Srpska .

Kozara is a popular hunting area, with an openly regulated hunt for deer, pheasants, foxes, wild boars, hares and ducks on 180 square kilometers. 33.75 square kilometers of this are accounted for by the national park with its dense forests and hilly meadows, which is nicknamed the "Green Beauty of Krajina ". A smaller part of the park is marked for nature lovers. Walking, hiking, biking and herb collecting are among the many activities available in the Kozara.

history

The Kozara was the scene of fierce fighting during World War II . The so-called Kozara offensive , a propaganda term used by the Wehrmacht , which began as part of the German Operation West Bosnia , encountered Yugoslav partisans who were initially only 3,000 men strong.
