The Nebelstein (1017 m) is one of the higher mountains in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel , it is located in the Freiwald near the state border with the Czech Republic .
Surrounding places are the hamlet Althütten belonging to Sankt Martin as well as Hirschenwies , Waldhäuser, Maißen and Schwarzau , which are parts of Moorbad Harbach .
The summit can be reached from the car park south of the mountain after a ten-minute walk on a hiking trail. The Nebelsteinhütte, located not far from the summit cross, is the intersection and starting point of many (long) hiking trails (including the north-south long-distance hiking trail , the Eastern Austrian borderland trail , the Eisenwurzen trail and the Lower Austrian Mariazeller trail ). The European long-distance hiking trails E6 and E8 also run here .
There is also an amateur radio system and a radio station. The Schwarzau rises on the southwest slope below the Talerberg .
