action

Ben Jones and Howdy Lewis are two cowboys who ride wild horses. The animals belong to the "Love Ranch" of Jim Ed Love, a devious dealer. Ben finds out that a horse, a roan , cannot be ridden. After they have ridden a herd of tamed horses for Ed Love again, they take on a new task and are supposed to catch runaway cattle for the winter. They take the horses with them to use at work. They stop at a farm and after a long night of whiskey, Ben swaps the roan for whiskey - for the long winter evenings. A few days later the farmer comes with the roan and wants to cancel the exchange because the horse cannot be ridden. Ben tries several times to work with the roan, but the animal remains stubborn. He toyed with the idea of selling it to a skinner to have it processed into dog food. But then he got the idea of taking the horse to a rodeo and betting that it would throw off every rider.

On the way there, Ben and Howdy meet Mary and Sister, two dancers whose car has broken down. The two men don't know much about cars. After a nude bath, they get closer to the women and take them to the rodeo. At the rodeo, bets are going well, nobody can get on horseback. But after a ride, the animal collapses. Ben spends $ 200 on the vet and has to pay the rest of the winnings from the winnings for the demolished stable to its owner after the horse has picked itself up again and then knocked out violently.

Ed Love persuades Ben and Howdy, who now have no dollar again, to work for him again. And the loyal and stubborn roan is still with them.

Reviews

“Enjoyable comedy entertainment with Ford and Fonda,” wrote the Lexicon of International Films . Cinema said that "Western specialist Burt Kennedy ( The Return of the Magnificent Seven ) [...] has succeeded in creating a very enjoyable 'horse opera'", "which gives realistic insights into everyday cowboy life today". The TV magazine Prisma came to a similar conclusion: “Even with his directorial work, even a sheriff needs help from time to time, and Latigo showed Burt Kennedy that he knows how to add comedic elements to the genre of wild west films. So in Nebraska , have fun with Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda. "
