Nebraska City is a small town in the US state of Nebraska in Otoe County , whose county seat it is at the same time. In 2000, Nebraska City had 7,228 residents.

Nebraska City's geographic coordinates are 40 ° 41 ′ N , 95 ° 52 ′ W (40.676247, −95.859659). The city is located on the west bank of the Missouri River , around 70 km south of Omaha and about an hour's drive from Lincoln .

Famous for being called Home of the Arbor Day, as Arbor Day has its roots here, Nebraska City has a number of interesting sights . Arbor Day was founded by Julius Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872 . Trees are planted every first Friday in April . Today there is the much-visited Arbor Day Farm / Lied Lodge and some apple plantations (Kimmel Orchard). Nebraska City has a number of parks (e.g. Wildwood, Riverview) and a considerable number of museums (e.g. the Nature Center ). Other tourist attractions include the JM Sterling Cabin, the historic courthouse and views over the Missouri Valley. In addition to Arbor Day in April, the Apple Jack Festival takes place in September, which is traditionally celebrated with a large parade, among other things.
Industry
In addition to a bagel factory , a few minutes drive south of Nebraska City is a power station owned by the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD), the local energy provider that produces the electricity for the region .
In 1953, the Elster American Meter Company (founded in 1836) set up its production facility here in Nebraska City. Elster American Meter Company is part of the Honeywell Group.
Nebraska City is dominated by agriculture (especially cattle and corn cultivation) in the area. There are a number of shops in the city center and an industrial area to the west. The entertainment industry is represented by the Pioneer 3 Theater (cinema), a bowling alley and two video stores . There is also a fitness center and a Walmart super center.

Nebraska City has a grade school, elementary school, middle school, and Nebraska City High School (NCHS, grades 9 through 12), which has just over 500 students . The school's mascot is the pioneer.
