Neil Corbould (born December 24, 1962 in England ) is a British VFX supervisor who received the Oscar for best visual effects twice (2001 and 2014) .

Life

He grew up in England with two brothers, Chris Corbould and Paul Corbould, who also work as special effects artists. At the age of 15 he got his first job as a special effects errand boy in Superman through his uncle Colin Chilvers, who worked for the film as a VFX supervisor . In 1980 he worked in The Elephant Man as a technician for Martin Gutteridge. In the following years, films like Superman II - Alone Against All , Superman III - The Steel Lightning and James Bond 007 - License to Kill followed as special effects technician .

In 1997 he first worked as the head of special effects at Das Fifth Element . In 2000, he founded Neil Corbould Special Effects Limited , a special effects company headquartered in Pinewood Studios .

For Gladiator he received the 2001 Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects . He received further nominations in 2007 for Superman Returns and 2013 for Snow White and the Huntsman . In 2014, he and Tim Webber , Chris Lawrence and Dave Shirk received another Oscar for his work on the science fiction film Gravity .
