features

Color plate from James Sowerby's "Colored Figures of English Fungi or Mushrooms" (1797)

Macroscopic features

The 2–6 cm wide hat is initially arched, later spread out flat and often bluntly hunched. It's a little tough, meaty, and bald. Its color is pale leather-brown to yellow, dry the colors pale. The surface is moist, translucent grooves. The edge is often wrinkled. The lamellae are paler than the hat, cross-veined, thick and standing around the stem at a distance. The stem is tough, longitudinally fibrous, finely flaky white on a leather-colored background and measures 3–9 mm × 4–7 cm. The mushroom allegedly sometimes smells like cloves with bitter almonds .

Microscopic features

The broadly elliptical spores measure 7-10 × 5-6 micrometers.

Ecology and phenology

The carnation swindler is a saprobiontic ground dweller, it occurs mainly on meadows , pastures, on lawns in gardens and parks, and in grassy forests. The carnation dodger is a common fungus that often grows in witch rings or rows. The mycelium releases nitrogen compounds as it grows, which means that the surrounding grass is often particularly lush green in color.

The fruiting bodies of the carnation shrimp appear in Central Europe from May to November.

meaning

The fruiting bodies of the clove swindler ( M. oreades ) are often used as a soup in the kitchen.

The clove dizziness is considered a good edible mushroom , which is often used as a seasoning or soup mushroom . Because of the tough stems underneath, only the hats with the stem tip are used. Due to its witch rings and the spots created by the released nitrogen compounds, it is sometimes viewed as a harmful fungus in ornamental lawns .
