Netphen [ ˈnɛtfən ] is a medium- sized town in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany).
geography
Netphen is located in the southwest of the Rothaargebirge in Siegerland , which borders the Wittgensteiner Land on the northeastern city limits . The core city of Netphen is about 6.5 km (as the crow flies ) northeast of the city center of Siegen . The urban area is characterized by a landscape with numerous ridges and valleys. Some districts are located in the southern part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park .
Waters
The victory flows through Netphen . Larger rivers in the urban area include the Werthenbach , its tributary Geiersgrundbach , the Netphe , the Dreisbach and the Obernau , which feeds the Obernau dam near Brauersdorf , which is named after it . Besides the Breitenbach dam near Hilchenbach, it is the second dam operated by the Siegen-Wittgenstein water association. Core location Netphen
The core city of Netphen is the largest district of Netphen. The place lies at around 283 m altitude and extends in the districts of Nieder- and Obernetphen over an area of around 10.7 km². The population includes 6104 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2013).
Netphen has the Netphen primary school with its two locations in Obernetphen and Niedernetphen, a secondary school, a grammar school, the town hall and the Netphen leisure park including indoor and outdoor pools and a trampoline hall.
Sights include the Protestant Martinikirche, the simultaneous St. Peterskapelle, the Catholic parish church St. Martin and the Catholic Kreuzbergkapelle.

Due to the high elevations outside the urban area, the climate in Netphen is very different. In 1239, at the request of his liege, Friedrich vom Hain , Count Heinrich II the Rich of Nassau transferred the income from the Netphener parish to the Premonstratensian monastery of Stift Keppel . This is also the first written mention of Netphen. The district of Niedernetphen was first mentioned in a document in 1439.
On July 28, 1590, a lightning strike destroyed the tower of the Netphener Church.
The northeastern part of the Siegerland - the Netpherland - in particular the area around Irmgarteichen was named after Count Johann VII von Nassau-Siegen , whose will from 1621 gave the region to his eldest son Johann VIII (1583-1638) . In the years 1635-1637 the raging plague . Reports of a raid by robbery troops on Netphen are available for May 3, 1643, during which the settlement was looted and largely destroyed. On January 1, 1969, as part of the local reorganization, the large community of Netphen was created. On June 30, 1997, it achieved city status when it exceeded the 25,000 inhabitant mark . Shortly before the start of the new millennium on January 1, 2000, Netphen was officially declared a city and has the status of a middle district city .
From August 15 to 17, 2014 the 775th anniversary celebration of Netphen took place with a standing pageant. About 40,000 visitors were counted.
Telephone prefixes
It is still curious today that there are more than two telephone prefixes in Netphen . While the main town was assigned the area code 02738, the Netphen-Deuz office and the more eastern towns can be reached via the area code 02737. In some places, however, area codes of neighboring cities are used, for example Dreis-Tiefenbach can be reached via 0271 (Siegen), Unglinghausen via 02732 (Kreuztal, since 1911) and Herzhausen via 02733 (Hilchenbach). The neighboring districts of Gernsdorf, Rudersdorf and Flammersbach can be reached via the Netphen-Deuzer area code 02737, but are listed in the telephone book under Wilnsdorf. This allocation was made by the Post before the current structure of Netphens and has been preserved in the telephone network to this day. It is mainly due to the distance between the villages and the switching centers.

In Netphen as a whole there are almost as many Roman Catholic and Protestant (Reformed and Lutheran) Christians, although there are definitely differences between the individual places. Local museum
A large exhibition room with evidence of prehistory and early history has existed in the Heimatmuseum since 1996. The focus is on the traditional economy of the Netpherland with tannery , charcoal burning as well as Haubergswirtschaft , Hude and beekeeping . The culture and tourism office is also located in the same building.
Martini Church
The Protestant Martinikirche is a hall church from the 13th century. When it gets dark and at night, the Romanesque tower of the church is illuminated. Hainchen moated castle
The rebuilt Hainchen moated castle is located in the Hainchen district .
The history of the mill goes back to the 12th century. It belonged to the von Hainchen lords of the castle until the 14th century. The then lord of the castle then gave it to his tenant. Ederkopf transmission tower
The 161 meter high concrete tower of the Ederkopf transmitter is also in the urban area of Netphen.

With the hockey department, SV Netphen has the only hockey team in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district that participates in both field and indoor games.
TVE Netphen
The local gymnastics club TVE Netphen is one of the oldest and with over 1600 members also one of the largest clubs in Netphen.
EHC Netphen '08 was founded in 2008 as the successor to EC Siegerland and the former EHC Netphen. The men's team plays in the third highest division, the ice hockey league , in the 2011/12 season . The 1b team takes part in the regional league of North Rhine-Westphalia. The home of the club is the Siegerland sports park in Netphen.
Eisflitzer Netphen e. V.
The only women's ice hockey club in Siegerland. Between 1984 and 2014, women's ice hockey was played in league games in Netphen. The women started in the ice hockey department of TEG Netphen and started their own club in 1986 under the name Eisflitzer Netphen e. V. self-employed.
Eissportgemeinschaft Siegerland (EGS) e. V.
Figure skating and ice dancing club founded in 1983. Here children, young people and adults can learn to skate. Competitive sport is also promoted. With Saskia Stähler and her partner Sven Autorsen, the EGS even provided the German champions in ice dancing in 1990. The nationwide popular challenge cups in ice dancing and figure skating, the Dilldappen Cup and the Krönchen Cup, take place every year.

Deuzer Maschinenfabrik Heitze GmbH & Co.
The company began on May 1, 1939 as a limited partnership for the purpose of manufacturing machines and apparatus as well as trading them under the name Maschinenfabrik M Heitze, limited partnership under the personally liable partner assembly master Martin Heitze, the engineer Edmund Dietrich and the managing director Ernst Zimmermann.
By the end of 1939 the first factory hall with a size of 600 m² was built and equipped with three small lathes, a drill, a manual welding system and five assembly workstations. There was no machine production before the start of the war in 1939.
In 1939 the workforce was six; it rose to eight by the end of 1945. First woodworking machines such as firewood cutting machines, joiner's circular saws, wood drilling machines and log band saws were built. This production was stopped in 1945 after more than 200 machines had been completed.
