Nicholas Purcell
Nicholas Purcell is a British ancient historian .
Life
From 1974 to 1977 he was a student at Worcester College , Oxford, before becoming a Prize Fellow at All Souls College , Oxford until 1979 . While a student at Worcester College, he was a student of Peter Brunt . From 1979 to October 2011 he was a tutor at St John's College (Oxford) , succeeding Nicholas Sherwin-White. He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2007. After becoming Camden Professor of Ancient History in October 2011, he was elected a Fellow of Brasenose College , Oxford.
His main research interests are the social, economic and cultural history of Rome and the city of Rome as well as the Mediterranean and its history.
