Nico Matern (born November 27, 1992 in Buxtehude ) is a German football player . He has been under contract with VfB Oldenburg since July 2019 and is mostly used in the attacking midfield.

Career

In his youth he played for FC St. Pauli and Halleschen FC . From the A-youth of Halle he moved to Wuppertaler SV in the Regionalliga West . He played his first and only game for the Wuppertal on October 28, 2011 under coach Hans-Günter Bruns in a 1-0 win against the reserves of Bayer 04 Leverkusen .

After only one season he left Wuppertaler SV again and moved to SV Drochtersen / Assel in the Lower Saxony Oberliga . He played his first game for his new club on August 3, 2012 in a 3-0 win against SK Hansa from Lüneburg . He scored his first goal for SV in the second leg against LSK Hansa on November 17, 2012. In the 66th minute he scored the interim 2-0 in a 4-0 victory.

After two seasons he moved to Hansa Rostock , where he was used in the second team. He played his first game in the Oberliga Nordost for Hansa Rostock II on August 3, 2014 in the 4-0 defeat against SV Altlüdersdorf . In the following game on August 8, 2014, he scored his first goal for the Rostock reserve. In the 15th minute he achieved the interim 1-0 lead in the 2-0 win against FC Pommern Greifswald . Under coach Peter Vollmann , he made his professional debut in the 3rd division on September 6, 2014. In the 1-0 defeat of the first team against Halleschen FC , he came on for Marcel Ziemer in the 80th minute .

For the 2015/16 season he moved from the second team of FC Hansa Rostock to the regional league promoted FC Schönberg 95 , where he made his debut on July 26, 2015. In his first outing, he scored his first goal for Schönberger in the 18th minute with the final score of 1-0.

After one season, the FC Schönberg 95 left again and moved to his hometown for Buxtehuder SV . He made his debut in the Oberliga Hamburg on July 31, 2016 in the 1: 4 defeat against Niendorfer TSV .

In the following year he went to Indianapolis (USA) and played there for two years at Indiana Wesleyan University and in the second US professional league with Indy Eleven.

In July 2019 he returned to Germany and joined VfB Oldenburg from the Regionalliga Nord.
