Nikolai Nikanorowitsch Dubowskoj ( Russian: Николай Никанорович Дубовской , patronymic Nikolajewitsch / Николаевич ; born December 17, 1859 in Novocherkassk ; † 1918 ) was a Russian landscape painter .

Life

N. Dubowskoj studied from 1877 to 1881 at the Petersburg Art Academy a . a. at Klodt and since 1889 headed the Peredwischniki , one of the most famous Russian artists' associations of the 19th century .

About 400 paintings and over 1000 studies are by N. Dubowskoj ; his best-known painting is Pritichlo , in English "It has become quiet", in which he captures the silence before a thunderstorm. This motif was new for its time.
