Nona Gaye

Nona Marvisa Gaye (born September 4, 1974 in Washington, DC ) is an American singer , actress and former model .

Life and accomplishments

Nona Gaye is the daughter of rhythm and blues singer Marvin Gaye and Janis Hunter. At the age of three weeks, Gaye was introduced to the audience by her father at his concert in New York City . Marvin Gaye said at the time: "This is my daughter Nona and she is going to be a big star."

When Gaye was ten years old, her father was shot dead with his own gun by his own father in the house he bought for his father. She started using drugs at the age of thirteen. A year later she dropped out of school. That same year, she got a recording deal after performing a version of the hit That's the Way Love Is , originally by her father. The album was not commercially successful, however. In 1994 Gaye worked with Prince and can be heard on his album The Gold Experience . In addition, she sings the song Love Sign in a duet with him and takes part as the leading actress in the music video . After a failed suicide attempt , Gaye was admitted to a mental hospital in 1996 after her mother had recently committed suicide .

In 1997, Gaye had a son named Nolan Pentz. Two years later she planned to turn to musical projects again. Instead, it was suggested that she turn to acting. Then she auditioned at the casting for the film Ali and got the role of the wife of boxing legend Muhammad Ali .

After the death of singer and actress Aaliyah Haughton in 2001, Gaye replaced her in her role in Matrix Reloaded .
