Norbert F. Pötzl (born April 10, 1948 in Waiblingen ) is a German journalist and author . He was a long-time Spiegel editor.

Life

After graduating from high school in Waiblingen, Pötzl volunteered for the Südwestpresse in Ulm from 1966 to 1968 . He then spent two years studying law at the University of Tübingen . From 1970 to 1972 he was the regional political correspondent for the Schwäbische Zeitung in Leutkirch.

From 1972 to 2013 he worked as an editor for the Hamburg news magazine Der Spiegel . At the end of the 1980s he was involved in the discovery of the Barschel affair ; A book produced immediately afterwards is, however, only of limited use to scientists. He later worked at Spiegel as an office manager in Berlin (from 1990 to 1994) and as head of duty (from 1994 to 1996). Most recently he was deputy head of the “Special Topics” department from 2004 to 2013, where he was also responsible for the Spiegel Geschichte and Spiegel Wissen series . He conducted interviews with people from contemporary German history such as Egon Bahr , Joachim Gauck , Gregor Gysi , Erich Mielke , Manfred Stolpe and Wolfgang Vogel . His biography (2014), later published about Vogel, was positively received by science.

He is the author and editor of numerous books ( Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt, among others). In 2004, together with Jochen Bölsche , he edited an anthology on comments, conversations and lectures by Spiegel founder Rudolf Augstein . The joint works The New Arab World and The Germans in Eastern Europe , both from 2011, were included in the publication series of the Federal Agency for Civic Education . His biography of Berthold Beitz was 2011/12 on the bestseller list of manager magazin .
