Sculptures made of bronze , in art casting as sand casting or lost wax produced stained glass windows and glass designs for facades, public art in stone and stained with oil paint on canvas show his artistic versatility. His art is characterized in particular by dealing with the human figure in its different moments of being and socio-political contexts.

In sculpting competitions, such as for the Petri Church in Westerstede (1999) and the Bremerhaven fountain system (2002), his work prevailed and could be carried out. Likewise in the glass design competition for altar windows in the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church in Schortens. Quotes

“I am interested in moments of human existence as a subject matter that I paint on the surface in deep spaces. I like to bring together different fragmentary representations to form a new field of vision. "

- Norbert Marten

"With the combination of painting and sculpture, Marten creates its own form of movement and openness as an artistic form of expression."

- Irmtraud Rippel-Manß (2004)

"The bronze figures of Norbert Marten can, it seems, all look back on successful years on stage, are all gestures and speaking movement - and all accessories reflect their souls."

- Jens Frederiksen (2006)
