Norman Shetler

Norman Shetler (born June 16, 1931 Pennsylvania , USA) is an Austrian pianist , puppeteer and university teacher of American descent.

life and career

Norman Shetler was born in Pennsylvania , USA. He came to Austria in 1955 to study in Vienna. He completed this course in 1959. Shetler became known as the piano accompanist for vocal soloists such as Anneliese Rothenberger , Peter Schreier , Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Thomas Quasthoff , but also for instrumental soloists such as Nathan Milstein and Heinrich Schiff , but also made a name for himself as a concert pianist.

Later he took over professorships for piano and song design, first, from 1983 to 1991, at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg and then, from 1992, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . The pianist can be heard on over 70 recordings.

Even after his retirement, Norman Shetler continued to give master classes, including a. regularly at the summer academy of the Salzburg Mozarteum .

For 35 years he has also made guest appearances as a puppeteer with his "Musical Puppet Cabaret" on three continents, at festivals and on television.

His son Norman Shetler (born 1974) is the director of the Gartenbaukino and the Wiener Stadtkino .
