North Shore Mountains
The North Shore Mountains are a mountain range in the southwest of the Canadian province of British Columbia . They are located just north of the metropolitan area Metro Vancouver and form the southernmost part of the Coast Mountains . Your name refers to the location on the north shore of the fjord Burrard Inlet , directly opposite the city of Vancouver . The mountain range is bounded to the west by Howe Sound , to the north and northeast by the Garibaldi Ranges and to the east by another fjord , the Indian Arm .
On the banks of Burrard Inlet are the three "North Shore communities" North Vancouver , West Vancouver and District of North Vancouver . Three deeply cut river valleys divide the North Shore Mountains, the Capilano River, the Lynn River and the Seymour River. The source area is under strict nature protection and may only be entered in exceptional cases. Despite their relatively low height (up to almost 1800 m ), the mountains are very steep and in places inaccessible. The climatic conditions contrast very strongly with those in nearby Vancouver, where the amount of precipitation is significantly lower and the weather is less changeable.
Due to their proximity to the city of Vancouver, the North Shore Mountains are a popular local recreation area , in which there are three provincial parks: Mount Seymour Provincial Park , Indian Arm Provincial Park and Cypress Provincial Park . An extensive network of hiking trails and mountain bike trails runs through the wooded slopes ; the North Shore Trails are named after the mountain range . At Mount Seymour , at Grouse Mountain and in the area Cypress Mountain ski can be operated (alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country).
The highest mountain in the North Shore Mountains is Brunswick Mountain , the summit of which is 1788 m . The best known, however, are The Lions ( 1646 m ); On the summit ridge, two high rocks rise up, which from a distance look like two lion heads.
