The North Square (formerly. Clark's Square ) is a place in the Boston district North End in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is located at the intersection of Moon , Prince , North , Garden Court and Sun Court Streets . Right on the square is the house where Paul Revere lived and which has been part of the Freedom Trail since the 1950s . At the North Square moreover was also attended by other personalities of the 17th and 18th centuries. Until July 4, 1788, the square was named Clark's Square .

history

In the 17th century, the Second Church was the center of the district. The pastor there, Increase Mather, lived in North Square "until the great fire in 1677 that destroyed his home."

“In the 18th century, the city's two largest houses were on North Square. [...] The merchant William Clark owned a three-story brick house with 26 spacious rooms. In the immediate vicinity was the house of John Foster , in which the Governor Thomas Hutchinson later lived. ” John Pitcairn also lived in North Square .

As always for it for the whole North End was typical, lived in the 20th century mainly Italian immigrants at North Square .
