Novasep , based in Lyon (France), is a group of companies that offer separation technology and synthesis for the life sciences .

history

The company emerged from Novasep, founded by Roger-Marc Nicoud in 1996, which develops separation technology for the pharmaceutical industry and is particularly concerned with preparative chromatography .

The plant manufacturer Applexion sas in Epône (France) became part of the group through an acquisition in 2005 . Applexion supplies engineering and systems for ion exchange, chromatography, softening, demineralization, membrane filtration, evaporation and systems for the utilization of stills from bioethanol production. Sugar, whey, organic acids and other things are processed. For its part, Applexion bought the membrane manufacturer Orelis from St. Maurice de Benoît near Lyon (France), which was previously part of Rhodia SA and previously Rhône-Poulenc . This company makes membranes from ceramic, carbon and organic materials.

The process technology division, Novasep Proces, has around 300 employees. The manufacturing plant division, Novasep Synthesis, consists of Dynamit Nobel GmbH Explosivstoff und Systemtechnik DNES in Leverkusen, which emerged from the former Dynamit Nobel group. It provides synthesis services for highly critical reactions, e.g. B. Certain reactions in the production of Tamiflu . Seripharm AG and, until 2006, Rohner AG in Switzerland also belong to the group. Seripharm manufactures cytotoxins and high- potent active ingredients (HPAI) and a. with chiral separation processes.

Novasep was privately owned until 2005 before it was sold to the American Rockwood group. In 2005, the major investments were made with Rockwood as an investment partner. As of 2007, the private equity investors Gilde Buy-Out Partners and Banexi Capital Partenaires will hold 72 percent of Groupe Novasep, with management's share increasing to 28 percent. In 2011, as a result of the financial crisis, the company's debts of 450 million euros had to be restructured; as a result, the company's capital came into the hands of American investors Tennenbaum, Silver Point and Pimco through a haircut and debt swap. The founder subsequently left the company and new management was appointed; the seat was moved from Pomey in Lorraine to Lyon.
