The Novoflex precision technology GmbH is a manufacturer of accessories for special fields of photography known and is or was in various market segments sole supplier. It is based in Memmingen in Upper Swabia .

history

The company was founded in 1948 by Karl Müller, a photographer and photo dealer from Memmingen, and began manufacturing camera housings on behalf of German manufacturers such as Leica and Contax, as well as associated lenses . From the beginning of the 1950s, Novoflex developed its own accessories. The first products were bellows devices for macro photography with small and medium format cameras. Within a few years, the company became the market leader among third-party manufacturers and has held this position to this day. After completion of the factory on the outskirts of Amendingen , Karl Müller got onto the street in front of the company while looking at the new fence and was run over by a car. The business was continued by his widow Hermine Müller and son Karl Herbert Müller.

In 1955 the first quick-shot lens came on the market and revolutionized animal and sports photography. Novoflex high-speed lenses do not adjust the focus by turning, but by pressing against a spring in a pistol grip and thus enable a previously unimagined speed and precision of the focusing of moving subjects. Until the autofocus technology was ready for practical use in the 1990s, many animal and sports photos were taken worldwide with telephoto lenses from Novoflex.

Both the bellows and the quick-fire lenses have been continuously developed and improved.

In 1964 the company employed around 80 people.

In the 1980s, the company expanded its range of accessories for macro photography. It developed special holders for flash units and tripod heads for use at close range and, from 1990, special light sources that are tailored to macro photography.

In the 1990s, the technical advances in autofocus technology made quick-shot lenses superfluous, so that Novoflex concentrated almost exclusively on macro photography in the field of photo technology from the turn of the millennium. Since the beginning of the 21st century, Novoflex has also been building a line of tripods whose modular "Quadropod" tripod system, presented in 2008, has four instead of the usual three legs as a special feature.

In addition, Novoflex has been manufacturing fine mechanical metal parts for customers from the optical industry, mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, electrical industry, furniture industry, hydraulics and pneumatics, the jewelry industry and other sectors for decades .
