Nunira is an East Timorese place and Suco in the administrative office of Laga ( municipality of Baucau ).

1772 inhabitants live in Nunira (2015), of which 918 are men and 854 women. The population density is 96.2 inhabitants / km². There are 308 households in the Suco. Over 95% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. The rest of the population speaks Tetum Prasa .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Nunira had an area of ​​24.20 km². Now there are 18.42 km². The Suco is to the north of the Laga Administrative Office, on the coast of the Wetar Strait . To the southwest is the Suco Soba , south of the Suco Libagua and east of the Suco Samalari . The Cassubolo River flows on the border with Soba and the Binagua along the border with Samalari . The salt lake Lagoa Laram with an area of ​​150,000 m² is close to the coast . During the dry season, the rivers and the lake almost dry up.

The northern coastal road, one of the country's most important transport routes, runs along the coast. The coastal towns of Uassabolo , Buigira ( Buiguire , Buiguira ) and Binagua are located on it . A second overland road runs through the south, connecting the towns of Baucau and Baguia . history

On May 29, 1997, elections were held in which representatives of East Timor should be elected to the Indonesian parliament . Two days earlier, young people attacked a group of election officials. One policeman and one soldier were killed, four other people were seriously injured and three were slightly injured. This attack took place in the vicinity of several such attacks on the Indonesian occupation forces, in which a total of nine civilians and 20 members of the Indonesian security forces died between May 27 and 31.

In August 2020, violent clashes broke out between members of the martial arts groups Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) and Ikatan Keluarga Silat Perguruan (IKSPTL) in the village of Wailawa, Nunira . Two people were injured and twelve houses were burned down.

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Celestino da Costa Pereira elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In the 2016 elections , Noilton de Sousa Gama won .
