Nuno Assis Lopes de Almeida (born November 25, 1977 in Lousã ) is a Portuguese football player who is under contract with Omonia Nicosia .

The attacking midfielder began his career in the youth department of SC Lourinhanense . 1999 he committed the FC Alverca ; only a year later he moved to Gil Vicente FC . In 2001 Assis went to Vitória Guimarães , where he played until January 2005. Benfica Lisbon became aware of the now 27-year-old and brought him to the capital during the season . Assis played with Benfica in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League . For the 2008/2009 season, Assis returned to Vitória Guimarães, where he signed a three-year contract. At the end of June 2010, the change to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia was announced, so that for the first time in his club's history he was also in a club outside of Portugal. The following year he moved back to Portugal to Vitória Guimarães. But it didn't last long there either, and he signed with Omonia Nicosia for the following season . In the very first year he won the Cypriot Supercup with the club .

His first appearance in the Portuguese national team was a substitution in a friendly against Scotland in November 2002. After a break of more than six years, he was reassigned to the team in 2009 and played in the World Cup qualification against Malta .

On December 3, 2005, Assis had to undergo a doping control after a championship game ; A and B samples were positive. Norandrosterone , which is on the FIFA and UEFA banned lists , was found in Assis' sample . At the beginning of February 2006, Assis was banned from all competitions until August 2006, initially by the Portuguese Football Association and from February 17, 2006 also by UEFA. Assis claims he is innocent and has not used any prohibited substances. The club doctor from Benfica wanted to show that the norandrosterone formed naturally. The WADA appealed the short barrier appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport one, which increased in January 2007, the lock on a year so that Assis was not eligible to play until 26 July 2007 for another six months.
