Here he started playing football as a nine-year-old in the youth of SSV Bobingen . In 1977 his family returned home, so that Çetin continued with club football in the youth of Sakaryaspor from 1979. In 1981 he made his debut in the Turkish league. Oğuz developed into an important player in Sakaryaspors. With the club he won the Turkish Cup in 1988 . A few weeks later it was announced that he would move to the traditional club Fenerbahçe Istanbul .

At Fenerbahçe Istanbul he was twice Turkish champion in eight years. In the 1991/92 season he was captain of the team. In 1996 he left the club and played for İstanbulspor . After two seasons for İstanbulspor, he ended his career in 2000 wearing the Adanaspor jersey .

For the Turkish national team Çetin completed 70 games and scored three goals. He took part with her at the European Championships in 1996 and was used once. After failing to qualify for the 1998 World Cup in France , he resigned as a national player.

Coaching career

In the 2000/01 season, Mustafa Denizli Çetin brought back to Fenerbahçe Istanbul as an assistant coach. After Denizli and Werner Lorant were laid off , he took over the post of chief at Fenerbahçe for a short time. Short positions at Kayseri Erciyesspor , Gençlerbirliği Ankara and Diyarbakırspor followed .

Since 2006 he has been assistant coach of the Turkish national team , first under Fatih Terim , later under Guus Hiddink . After the separation from Terim as a result of the missed qualification for the 2010 World Cup , he supervised the selection for half a year until Hiddink was committed on an interim basis. After the failed qualification for the EM 2012 , the Turkish association ended the cooperation with him as well as with head trainer Hiddink.

With Boluspor Çetin achieved some respectable successes and briefly occupied a playoff place with his team. However, after the team had clearly moved away from the playoff positions due to significant point losses towards the end of the season, Çetin announced his retirement after the 0-1 defeat against MKE Ankaragücü .
