Location of Oberbolheim in Nörvenich
|
Oberbolheim is a village in the municipality Nörvenich in Düren , Region of Cologne , North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
The place and the air base
Oberbolheim is a very young, pure place to live. The old Oberbolheim, which has developed and grown over centuries, was relocated from its old location ( 50 ° 49 ′ N , 6 ° 38 ′ E ) northwest of the St. Antonius Chapel in 1968/1969 . Due to the close proximity to the runway of the Nörvenich air base , the aircraft noise had become unbearable, and there was a risk of danger from jet planes that might crash .
Alt-Oberbolheim was on the Benzelrath – Nörvenich railway line and federal road 477 .
The relocated place
The new Oberbolheim was built in an open field around two kilometers south-east directly by the Nörvenicher Forest . Immediately after the residents moved out, their houses were demolished and the village disappeared from the map. Only the Antonius Chapel remains of the old Oberbolheim. Oberbolheim is the only place in North Rhine-Westphalia that was relocated because of aircraft noise.
Naming
The Düren place name researcher Wilhelm Kaspers derives the name part "bol" from the Old High German "bolla" via "bol" = "round hill". Since Oberbolheim was not on a hill , the explanatory approach of the Bonn linguist Heinrich Dittmaier, who traces this syllable back to the personal name "Bolla". According to Dittmaier, the place names on the left bank of the Rhine that end in “-heim” date back to the first post-Roman centuries .
Incorporation
On January 1, 1969, Oberbolheim was incorporated into Nörvenich.
