The Riyadh trolleybus is the only trolleybus system in Saudi Arabia ; operations in the capital Riyadh opened in October 2012.

description

The only line serves a stretch of just over four kilometers, the total length of the contact line is around nine kilometers and has no air switches or crossings. A total of three substations of Asea Brown Boveri provide the route with 750 volts DC .

The facility opens up the medical campus of the King Saud University, officially inaugurated on April 23, 2013 . Each of the ten stops is equipped with an air-conditioned waiting room in each direction. The traffic concept stipulates that students, lecturers and visitors park their vehicles in the park and ride car parks on the edge of the site and reach their destination on the site with the trolleybus. The route is operated between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., with a car running every three minutes. As planned, ten articulated trolleys are required for this , an eleventh serves as a reserve. The depot is located off the electrified route, about 300 meters east of the first stop. It can therefore only be reached with the diesel auxiliary drive .
