The Odenwaldklub e. V. (OWK) is an area hiking association based in Darmstadt , which consists of 100 local associations with a total of approx. 13,000 members . The association was founded in 1882 in the hamlet of Zipfen at the foot of the Otzberg . It is entered in the register of associations of the Darmstadt District Court (VR 777).
The catchment area of the Odenwald Club extends from Frankfurt am Main in the north, Wachenheim in the west, Bruchsal in the south, Bad Wimpfen in the southeast and Wertheim in the east. It has a share in three federal states : Hesse , Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria .
In addition to hiking, the members of the Odenwald Club are actively involved in nature and landscape protection. The maintenance of cultural assets, regional customs and the lively preservation of local history are also part of the association's area of responsibility.
In 1913 the club magazine "Die Dorflinde" was founded by Rudolf Kissinger . The magazine with a circulation of around 14,000 copies appears quarterly. In addition to articles on club activities, it contains a wide range of information about the Odenwald , its history and local history.
The office of the Odenwald Club is located in the State Park Fürstenlager in Bensheim-Auerbach .
Wanderheim
The association maintains a hikers' and youth home in the Lautertal district of Knoden . It is available to members and interested groups for leisure time and seminars.

Hiking trails
The Odenwaldklub has designated a large number of hiking trails in the Odenwald.
The main hiking trail HW73 Burgensteig Bergstraße runs in the western Odenwald, along the Bergstraße from Darmstadt-Eberstadt to Heidelberg .
The main hiking trail HW37 of the association runs from Miltenberg to Osterburken with the Eastern Limes Trail.
Predicate hiking trails
Ways that meet specific criteria, as predicate trail from the Association of German mountain and hiking clubs as "Qualitätsweg Walking in Germany" excellent. These must u. a. have a high proportion of natural paths, user-friendly marking, a varied landscape and a high potential for adventure.
The Alemannenweg is a 144-kilometer-long quality hiking trail in the northern front of the Odenwald and along the Hessian Bergstrasse . It runs as a great trail of Erbach about Reichelsheim that Felsenmeer in Reichenbach, Bensheim-Auerbach , Frankenstein Castle , Castle Lichtenberg and the Veste Otzberg back to the valley of Mümling to Michelstadt-Steinbach . There are many cultural and historical sights on the Alemannenweg.
Another top-rated hiking trail is the Nibelungensteig , which, with a length of 130 kilometers, runs through the Odenwald completely from west to east. It leads from Zwingenberg an der Bergstraße via Lautertal , Lindenfels , Grasellenbach , Mossautal , Beerfelden , Erbach, Amorbach and Miltenberg to Freudenberg am Main . The special thing about the Nibelungensteig is its demanding height profile. Since it leads over the heights and valleys of the Odenwald, it offers hikers around 4,000 meters of altitude over its total length.
