Ofelia Nieto

Ofelia Nieto ( María Ofelia Erenia Nieto Iglesias ; born March 18, 1898 in Algete , † March 22, 1931 in Madrid ) was a Spanish singer ( soprano ).

The younger sister of the singer Angeles Ottein studied singing at the Conservatory of Madrid with Lorenzo Simonetti . She made her debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid under the direction of Pablo Luna in Amadeo Vives ' Zarzuele Maruxa . The success of her debut earned her roles in performances of Ernani , Madama Butterfly and La Bohème . With her sister and the pianist Raffaele Terragnolo , she went on a concert tour through Spain.

In 1919 she sang the title roles in Aida and Manon at the Teatro La Pergola in Florence . On a Latin American tour in 1921 she performed at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, the Teatro Abreu in Mexico and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Her musical partners now included singers such as Aureliano Pertile , Tito Schipa , José Mojica , Hipólito Lázaro , Miguel Fleta and Giacomo Lauri-Volpi . At the invitation of Arturo Toscanini , she appeared in 1926 at La Scala in Milan alongside Aureliano Pertile in Lohengrin . In 1928, at the height of her success, she retired from the opera stage.
