from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ola "elemeNt" Moum (born June 24, 1986 ) is a former Norwegian e-athlete .

Moum is multiple world champion and is considered one of the most important Counter-Strike players of all time. Moum was the first e-athlete in the western world to be paid a transfer fee . This happened in the course of his transfer from SK Gaming to Team NoA on May 18, 2004. He was also the first Counter-Strike Legionnaire : in 2005 he moved to Brazil for Made in Brazil , and in 2006 to Germany for mousesports .

In October 2007, he announced his retirement after being fired from MeetYourMakers . In 2008 he announced his temporary return to esports to take part in the World Cyber Games one last time . He finished the tournament in fourth place.

Career

At the age of 16, Ola "elemeNt" Moum took part in his first world championship, the CPL Summer 2002 , with GameOnline . He finished second. In September he founded the eoLithic clan with other Norwegian top players , but had to leave it after two months to make room for Jørgen "XeqtR" Johannessen and Ruben "Dark" Bielenberg. Moum returned to GameOnline and finished second again at CPL Winter 2002.

In January 2003 he switched again to eoLithic. The team could not boast a single title, but at the beginning of 2003 was still considered the strongest Counter-Strike team in the world. Due to personal differences with Johannessen, Moum left eoLithic after six months and joined the Swedish team SK Gaming. His first appearance was at the Electronic Sports World Cup in 2002 , where he won bronze with SK.

Shortly thereafter, Moum became the new team captain . From that point on in 2003, SK Gaming has won all Counter-Strike tournaments in which it participated, including the CPL Summer, CPL Winter and the World Cyber Games. At that time, SK was practically unbeatable and the dominance of the team at that time is unmatched to this day.

After SK Gaming's hit streak came to an end in 2004, Moum switched to Team NoA. The player transfer was completed on May 18, 2004. For the first time in the history of e-sports, a transfer fee was paid, the amount of which was kept secret. The Norwegian-American squad from NoA initially struggled with problems, but eventually took first place at CPL Winter 2004. In the first season of the World e-Sports Games , Ola “elemeNt” Moum led his team to victory again. Shortly afterwards, in April 2005, the Norwegian left Team NoA and joined the Brazilian clan Made in Brazil . According to rumors, this was due to the renewed personal differences between Moum and Johannessen during the WEG.

With his move to Made in Brazil Moum was the first player to his residence moved abroad to play professionally Counter-Strike. However, he was only under contract with mibr for just under two months, as the clan's management was disappointed with his willingness to work and his frequent stays abroad made regular training impossible. He then joined the 4Kings and took part with the British clan in the second WEG season. 4K took third place. This was followed by poor performances at the Electronic Sports World Cup and other tournaments that led Moum to leave 4Kings in October 2005. At CPL Winter 2005 he temporarily helped out at United 5 and finished the tournament in the top 16.

On January 1, 2006, Ola "elemeNt" Moum was signed up by the German mousesports clan . He moved to Berlin , where he was given his own apartment. With mouz he finished second in the ESL Pro Series and came fifth at the Intel Summer Championships of the World Series of Video Games . After a little over half a year, the contract was terminated. Persistent communication problems and unsatisfactory tournament results were given as reasons.

In November 2006, Moum was signed by MeetYourMakers . He took part in the CPL Winter 2006 with MYM and finished second. In 2007, however, MYM could not celebrate any notable successes. In October, the Norwegian canceled his participation in the World Cyber Games in Seattle at short notice . The cause of his absence was not given. After he was also absent from the IEM II Global Challenge in Los Angeles , MYM announced his release on October 26, 2007. Ola “elemeNt” Moum then ended his e-sports career at the age of 21.

In the run-up to the 2008 World Cyber Games, he announced that he would be returning to the activity one last time to compete in the esports world championship and joined the Norwegian team cbteam . The team finished fourth in Cologne, in the game for third place it was defeated by the Koreans from eSTRO . In an interview shortly after this game, he confirmed that this was likely to be his last Counter-Strike match at a professional tournament, but did not rule out a return.

Since then, elemenT has not competed in any significant tournament and has withdrawn from e-sports.
