Olaf Groehler

Olaf Groehler (born April 28, 1935 in Berlin ; † December 27, 1995 there ) was a German military historian in the GDR . His main area of ​​work was the history of the air war between 1914 and 1945.

Life

In 1953 he graduated from high school . 1953 to 1957 he studied history at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He then worked as a publishing editor. From 1960 he worked at the Academy of Sciences . 1964 doctorate he holds the British and American political and military preparation for the Second Front Dr. phil. In 1971 he completed his habilitation on the same topic. In 1983 he was appointed Professor of German History at the Academy of Sciences. There he became head of the German History department from 1917 to 1945 at the Central Institute for History. From 1985 to 1990 he was Deputy Director of the Central Institute for History.

After 1990 he worked on the research focus on contemporary history studies in Potsdam until his work as an unofficial employee of the State Security became public in 1994 . His biography of the aviation entrepreneur Hugo Junkers remained unfinished after his death.
