Oliver Barth (born October 6, 1979 in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt ) is a former German soccer player and current coach . In his playing career he came to SC Freiburg in 57 games in the Bundesliga and as well as for the SC Freiburg VfR Aalen in 108 games of the 2. Bundesliga are used.

Career

As a player

Barth played in the youth departments of TSV Schmiden and VfB Stuttgart . He then wore the SV Fellbach jersey in the Württemberg Association League until 2001 . Since he saw no prospect of making a career as a professional footballer , Barth completed a commercial apprenticeship before he switched to the Stuttgart Kickers in the then third-class Regionalliga Süd . After 106 regional league games for the Kickers - most recently as captain - Barth moved to the then regional league team Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2005 . For this he played 44 regional league games in two years.

Barth moved to the then second division club SC Freiburg for the 2007/08 season on a free transfer . On August 17, 2007, he made his first appearance in the 2nd Bundesliga in the game against SC Paderborn 07 . Overall, he was used twelve times in his first season, twice over the entire game. At the end of the season, the Breisgauer rose to the top of the table in the Bundesliga . In the first division, Barth was a regular in the Freiburg defense under coach Robin Dutt . On the 16th matchday of the 2010/11 season he scored his first first division goal with the second goal in Freiburg's 3-0 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach .

After his contract in Freiburg was not extended in June 2012, Barth moved to the second division promoted VfR Aalen . Under coach Ralph Hasenhüttl , he was initially still in competition with Benjamin Hübner and Tim Kister for the central defensive positions, but then prevailed as a regular at the Aalen team towards the middle of the first half of the season. He kept his regular place in the following season under the new coach Stefan Ruthenbeck and then extended his contract, which was running out at the end of the season. At the end of the following 2014/15 season, the team was relegated to the third division . After relegation, Barth stayed with the Ostwuerttemberg team and so came to his first appearances in the now-introduced nationwide third division in the following season, after the former third-rate regional leagues were still organized in separate seasons.

At the end of the season in summer 2016, which he also completed as a regular player, Barth originally planned to end his career as an active soccer player at the age of 36. However, the intended subsequent takeover into the VfR Aalen coaching team did not materialize, which is why Barth left the Aalen team after four years and then stayed fit with his former club, Stuttgarter Kickers . In August 2016, the Kickers signed him for their second team playing in the major leagues, where he became captain. At the same time he began his trainer training. At the beginning of the season he also made two appearances for the first team of the Kickers in the Regionalliga.

As a trainer

In January 2017, Barth switched to the VfB Stuttgart coaching team . There he became assistant coach of the club's second team playing in the regional league, under his former Freiburg team-mate Andreas Hinkel , who had also taken on the new coaching position there.

On July 1, 2018, Barth moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth as Damir Burić's assistant coach . In the first main round of the 2018/19 DFB Cup , Barth and Petr Ruman represented Burić, who was unable to attend because of a bereavement in his family, and in the same season on the 19th day of the second division due to a suspension of the head coach. In February 2019, the club separated from Burić and Barth after the team lost 6-0 in Paderborn on matchday 20 .

The VfL Bochum for the enhanced season 2019/20 head coach Robin Dutt's team with Barth as an additional assistant to the first assistant coach Heiko Butscher to allow his training as a football coach. On January 4, 2020, the employment relationship with VfL Bochum was terminated.
