Company history

The newspaper was founded in 1869 by Peter Dietschi as the Volksblatt vom Jura . In 1878 the name was changed to Oltner Tagblatt . The Oltner Tagblatt is therefore the oldest daily newspaper in the canton of Solothurn under this name. Historically and regionally, the Oltner Tagblatt is focused on the Olten / Gösgen / Gäu region of the canton of Solothurn .

Editor-in-chief is Beat Vorteili. From 1908 to 1918 the later Federal Councilor Walther Stampfli was the responsible editor.

Since 2002, the Oltner Tagblatt, together with the Aargauer Zeitung , the Limmattaler Zeitung , the Solothurner Zeitung , the Grenchner Tagblatt , the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung and the Zofinger Tagblatt has been purchasing the coat az Nordwestschweiz (formerly Mittelland-Zeitung ), which is produced in Aarau .

From September 2007 to February 2017, the Sunday newspaper Switzerland appeared on Sunday (until 2013 Sunday ) as the seventh edition of Northwestern Switzerland and thus of the Oltner Tagblatt . Since March 4, 2017, Northwestern Switzerland has been publishing an extended weekend edition for the association's newspapers on Saturdays under the name Schweiz am Sonntag .

In 2018, AZ Medien brought the Oltner Tagblatt and the other papers it owned from the Northwestern Switzerland Association to the CH Media joint venture founded with the NZZ-Mediengruppe , which is owned equally by both groups. The joint venture also includes the regional newspapers of the NZZ media group St. Galler Tagblatt and Luzerner Zeitung as well as the radio and TV stations of both companies and other business units. CH Media went into operation on October 1, 2018.
