Olubanke King-Akerele (born May 11, 1946 in Liberia ) is an internationally known Liberian politician . She was her country's Minister of Economic Affairs and Secretary of State in the Johnson-Sirleaf government from 2007 to 2010 .

Life

Born in Liberia, Olubanke King-Akerele is a direct descendant of the 16th Liberian President Charles DB King , she was born on May 11, 1946. She studied economics and law at the Nigerian University of Ibadan and Columbia University in the United States . She then took on numerous roles in the service of the United Nations .

In the government of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf , she initially held the economic department (Minister of Commerce and Industry) and then replaced long-time Foreign Secretary George Wallace in a cabinet reshuffle in autumn 2007 . After she was sworn in in October 2007, she remained Foreign Minister of the Republic of Liberia until November 3, 2010, her successor being Toga G. McIntosh .
