Afghanistan took part in the XI. 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin for the first time participated in the Olympic Games. In the German capital, the country was represented by a delegation of 15 athletes. 14 of them took part in the competitions. The team was accompanied by two representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan , Ghazi Shah Mahmud Kahn and Shahzada Mohammed Yusuf Khan , as well as the hockey referee Yaqub. There were no female athletes present for the country.

The Afghan hockey team finished their preliminary group in second place. However, this was not enough to qualify for the semi-finals. In the consolation round, which however no longer had any influence on the final ranking, Afghanistan won its two games against Belgium (4-1) and the USA (3-0).
